Convert Min/km to Min/mile
Training plans, watches and race results don't always agree on units. If your pace is in minutes per kilometre but the race signs are in miles (or vice-versa), here's how to convert — with the formula, a full chart, and an instant calculator.
The formula
min/mile = min/km × 1.60934
A mile is 1.60934 km, so your per-mile pace is always a bigger number than your per-km pace. To go the other way: min/km = min/mile ÷ 1.60934.
Worked example: a pace of 5:00 /km is 5.0 × 1.60934 = 8.05 minutes ≈ 8:03 /mile. (Remember to convert the decimal: 0.05 min × 60 ≈ 3 seconds.)

Pace versus speed
If you'd rather think in speed, the same conversion applies between km/h and mph: 1 mph = 1.60934 km/h. A pace of 5:00/km equals 12 km/h, which is about 7.46 mph. The calculator shows pace in both min/km and min/mile plus speed in km/h and mph, all at once.
Why the numbers look so different
It catches people out that "8:03 per mile" sounds much slower than "5:00 per km" — but they're the same effort. A mile is roughly 61% longer than a kilometre, so naturally it takes about 61% longer to cover. Whenever you compare paces across units, convert first or you'll badly misjudge your fitness.
